Generating Opportunity in Agriculture and Livelihoods (GOAL-II) Project
Brief description of GOAL-II Project.
GOAL-II project is being implemented with the financial support from Australian Aid, ADRA Nepal in 9 wards of Runtigadhi rural municipality, Rolpa district for a period of 5 years starting from July 2019 to June 2024. The project is the second phase of GOAL project previously implemented in Rolpa. The project aims to strengthen capacity and competency of poor and vulnerable communities towards entrepreneurship development focused on vegetable farming and goat farming. Additionally, the project also contributes in gender equality and social inclusion at community level by promoting and capacitating community and municipal level networks and alliances. Total Project budget is NRs. 17,502,112.00.
Project Goal/Outcomes:
The project goal is to empower women and increase income of poor and vulnerable people of Runtigadhi Rural Municipality.To achieve the goal, it has set 4 major outcomes:
- Poor and vulnerable groups, particularly women and PWD, have increased engagement in resilient and market-led livelihood options
- Agriculture entrepreneurs have improved access to business development services including inputs market and outputs market
- People from vulnerable communities, particularly women, understand their rights and entitlements, and access resources and services from local government (LGs) and other stakeholders
- Local government and stakeholders create enabling environment for increased resilience and inclusive development
Nature of service provided:
The project has the following major areas of working
- Poor and vulnerable groups, particularly women and PWD, have increased engagement in resilient and market-led livelihood options
- Small irrigation system established and Climate adaptive technologies and practices demonstrated
- Farmer market schools (FMS) conducted to empower farmers in basic market research and devise strategies to access different market segments
- Develop/Strengthen capacity of collection center for expansion of coverage area and market information dissemination
- Women activist from the vulnerable community capacitated and mobilized
- ROLDP training provided to group members, particularly women, and local leaders to build leadership capacity in need identification, project planning and resource leveraging
- LPOs/CSOs enhanced skill on gender analysis and identified gaps for advocacy initiatives
- Local government and stakeholders create enabling environment for increased resilience and inclusive development
- Local government supported to initiate implementation of resilient livelihood program through project collaboration
- Local government representatives participated on gender responsive planning and budgeting of the local resource
Brief Achievement of the project:
The project has made the following initial stage of achievement for the first year of its implementation.
- The project has supported women by establishing improved enterprise Also provided climate change technologies aimed to increase productivity.
- Women activists are identified and trained on gender equality and social inclusion and mobilized to support in community in gender issues/cases. The women activist is supporting gender-based violence survivors in judicial and referral system. The project has also supported the RM in preparation of gender policy and provided financial support to address the gender violence case. It has also provided capacity building training to the member of ward and municipal gender-based violence control network.
- In addition to this the project provided health material support to municipal office to manage the COVID 19 situation
