Project completed date:    12 Apr. 2012
Source of Fund: DFID Total Project Budget:  NPR 14,716,100.00

Brief Description of the Project:
The project aimed to connect communities with scientific forest management practices to ensure the sustainable use of forest resources and promote forest-based income-generating activities. This was achieved through the formation and strengthening of Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs), which were supported with seed funds to initiate and expand small-scale enterprises in sectors such as forestry, livestock, agriculture, and other off-farm activities. To enhance livelihood outcomes, the project conducted wellbeing rankings to identify vulnerable households and prioritize them for income generation opportunities.
Major outcomes achieved/ Implementation Success:
  • Allocated NPR 720,000 to 160 households across 18 Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs) for revolving funds, which supported income-generating activities such as goat farming, pig farming, vegetable production, and tailoring.
  • Assisted in the development of forest-based enterprises by providing skill development training to two entrepreneurs and supplying essential equipment to initiate their businesses.
  • Conducted climate change awareness meetings attended by 278 participants from 10 CFUGs. Additionally, awareness sessions were held in 5 higher secondary schools, engaging a total of 278 individuals (145 female and 133 male).
  • Provided information to Village Forest Conservation Committee (VFCC) members about their roles, responsibilities, and climate change issues, including impacts and strategies for mitigation and adaptation.
  • Established 37 community organizations in 4 VDCs.
